Strawberry, vanilla, chocolate and banana all in one dish? How can that be healthy? But it’s amazing. Packed with protein and fiber, this delicious smoothie is a great way to start out any morning. So yummy:)
For 2 servings, you will need:
- 1 c. Old-fashioned Rolled Oats
- 1 c. Fresh Strawberries
- 1 Ripe Banana (large)
- 1 Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Vanilla Yogurt (single-serving)
- 1/2 c. Protein Plant Milk (or any milk)
- 1/2 ts. Vanilla Extract
- 2 Tb. Cacao Powder
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. If you need to add more milk, feel free to add us much as you need to. I hope you will enjoy it. I know it satisfies my sweet tooth when I get a craving.
When I purchase oats, I buy Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats. I feel like they are healthier knowing that the crops aren’t tainted by cross-contamination. Over time, if you consume too much gluten, you can start experiencing discomfort from leaky gut. Basically, gluten is difficult for your body to digest and can eventually cause holes to form within your intestines which leak particles into your body, effecting it in many different ways. When I cut gluten from my diet my body felt better, that’s what I can tell you. Now, I am not totally gluten free, but anything I eat on a regular basis, like oatmeal and such, I get gluten-free. Limiting gluten in my diet has helped a lot! If you can’t quit cold-turkey, it’s OK to take it one step at a time.
In any case, oats are really healthy for you. They’re not categorized as a wheat, barley or rye grain. So instead of the protein gluten, oats contain the protein avenins. They’re pretty useful if you are looking to lower your cholesterol. They’re full of filling fiber, helps improve digestion, and actually increase your immunity. They’re lower in the glycemic index than refined grains. They have important minerals like manganese and phosphorous, which means they’re good for your bones, metabolism, energy and maintaining hormone balance. Oats have a higher source of protein compared to most grains. All in all, they’re pretty good for you. I like to eat them with fresh fruit, raisins and cinnamon. 🙂
